Fulop at RNA Meeting July 13th
Ward E Councilman Steve Fulop will be our guest at the July RNA meeting. He will be discussing the upcoming property tax revaluation and other issues of interest to our community. Last month, Mayor Healy made an unannounced appearance at our meeting to speak about the Reval on an evening when the tax assessor was our guest. RNA is endeavoring to educate the public about the property tax revaluation process and hope you will join us on Tuesday, July 13th at 7:30PM, at the Harbor View Health Center, 178 Ogden Ave (corner of Franklin) 1st Floor Cafeteria.
An Evening at The Distillery!
Did you know that a new art gallery opened recently at 7 Hutton Street, right off Palisade Avenue? Join RNA at The Distillery Gallery & Art Space to view their latest exhibit (featuring Heights Artists!) on Saturday, July 24th from 6PM-9PM. This is a fundraiser for RNA’s 3rd Annual Movie Night in Riverview Park and is also a chance to meet your neighbors, support local artists, and enjoy wine tasting, music and tapas.
Tickets are $25 and are available at the door or in advance via PayPal. For more information about The Distillery, please visit www.distilleryart.org.
A Beautiful 4th
Riverview-Fiske Park was host to hundreds who came for one of the best seats in Hudson County for watching this year’s Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks. Our thanks to the Jersey City Police for their watchful presence and the Jersey City Incinerator Authority for the quick clean-up of remaining trash in the park.

Pomp and Circumstance – But No Steps
Did you know that in exchange for the zoning board variances that allowed The Cliffs apartments to be built, its developer agreed to build the “100 Steps” stairway? That the “100 Steps” will connect Ogden Avenue to the base of Mountain Road, and make the pedestrian trip between the Heights and the Light Rail and Hoboken safer and easier? That the Steps are to be built at the “sole cost and expense” of the Developer, Brass Works Urban Renewal, LLC, at no cost to the taxpayer as stipulated in a written developer’s agreement entered into on August 11, 2005 between the developer and the City of Jersey City? That The Cliffs is fully occupied yet this promised benefit to the community has not been constructed?
The City needs to enforce its agreements. Instead, it held a groundbreaking ceremony right before the 2009 Mayoral and Council election promising completion by the end of 2009. And nothing.

Tree Work in Riverview Park Slated to Start
Ten dead trees will be removed over the next few weeks by the Division of Parks and Forestry. Pruning of healthy trees by a certified arborist will begin in July as well. RNA has been told that concrete repairs to the sidewalks on the east side of the Park are scheduled to take place concurrently.
