Our Community
The Riverview Neighborhood Association is part of a larger community in Jersey City known as "The Heights". Our neighborhood is called Riverview due to the magnificent views offered from the Palisade Cliffs of the Hudson River, The City of Hoboken, and New York City.
Dedicated in 1897, Riverview Fiske Park is situated in the center of our community. The park offers breath taking views of the Manhattan skyline and the Hudson River. It hosts a variety of activities from spring to fall such as the yearly RNA Flea Market and Movies in the Park. The south end of the park offers residents a community garden and to the north Holland Street. RNA and the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy successfully fought and earned municipal historic designation for Holland Street one of four remaining cobblestone streets in Jersey City. Efforts are currently underway to integrate Holland Street into Riverview Park. The park also includes walking paths, a gazebo, a children's playground, and a basketball and boche court.
The Heights Section of Jersey City (aka the Jersey City Heights) was once an independent municipality known as Hudson City. Incorporated as a town in 1852, it later merged with Jersey City in 1869. The Heights area is comprised mostly of one and two family houses, with a central business district located on Central Avenue. Bordering the North end of the Heights is County owned Washington Park. Pershing Field is located in the center of the Heights offering green space, baseball fields, an Olympic size swimming pool, tennis and an ice skating rink. Adjacent to Pershing Field Park is Reservoir#3 which constitutes one of the largest patches of green space in the Heights.
The Heights is served by Christ Hospital on Palisade Avenue and includes several public, parochial and private schools. The North District police station serves the Heights and is located on Central Avenue. The Heights encompasses two Council Wards - Ward C which runs from Franklin Street south and Ward D, which runs from Franklin Street to the Union City border.
